What is a hatchback?
The Hatchback is a low vehicle, of average size, measuring between 4 and 5 metres in length with 5 doors and at least 4 seats inside. The Hatchback car is versatile and adapted to long journeys but also family trips thanks to its spacious cockpit.

Two-box or three-box hatchback: what are the differences?
The hatchback can have two shapes of bodywork, which is divided into types: two box or three box.

Three-box Hatchback
This class of Hatchback can be broken down into 3 sections: an engine compartment where the bonnet is, the passenger compartment and boot. This kind of car doesn’t have a tailgate but a regular boot lid.

Two-box Hatchback
Different to the three-section model, the two-box Hatchback is made up of 2 parts: the engine compartment and the cockpit with the boot integrated. This model has a tailgate with the rear window and bootlid opening as one. It’s about the most common type of Hatchback.
What are the different versions of hatchback?

Touring Hatchback
Its good road holding makes this the ultimate car for long journeys and enables it to cover the kilometres comfortably. Generally close to 5 metres long, the touring Hatchback has a spacious and welcoming cockpit. Its length also ensures it has generous boot capacity.

Compact Hatchback
The compact Hatchback sits between the supermini and the more classic saloon. Unlike three-box Hatchback cars, the compact two-box has a large vertical tailgate at the rear. The versatility of the compact Hatchback makes it a car that’s at ease in town but also on the open road.

Buying a new Hatchback: what's the choice of power unit?

If you’re buying a new Hatchback you have the choice between combustion engine and electrified power units. Petrol and diesel cars benefit from having a greater range than electric cars. On the other hand, the latter are more economical on fuel and more eco-friendly.
